I am kinda new to taking photos. been doing it for about 2 years I picked up a D5100 a few months ago. I can not for the life of me take a photo at night of the moon, it is ether just a white light in black or the moon is so dark in the photo you cant see it, any info I can get would be helpful.

Second , where do you measure the light ? (on which part)
Do you work on manual setting ? or automatic?
